A great experience at the Whittington hospital Labour Ward where my son was born in the early hours. Our plan to have the birth at the birth centre had to be changed when my wife wasn't feeling the baby's movement as much during the contraction, but we were really grateful when the team on labour ward took over our care and settled our nerves with their reassuring, compassionate behaviour.
As a partner, I was made to feel welcome and encouraged to help out in the process ie (what was happening, what she should be doing, discussing pain relief) and for that I will always be grateful. I would like to express my gratitude to Emily, kareen, Anna and Jasmine (forgive me if I spelt your names wrong) for all the help you gave to my wife and child, you are a credit to your profession of midwifery.
Our stay in post labour ward was comfortable, the staff (from the housekeeper, domestic, senior sister to the doctor who examined the baby) were pleasant and kind in their interactions with us.
The only disappointing aspect was the lack of communication between departments. When we phoned ahead to birth centre, we was told to go to maternity triage and that our details will be passed on to the team there. When we arrived there, we were made out to feel like idiots who didn't understand what was said to them.
"Great maternity experience with a dash of disappointment."
