I underwent a colorectal operation on 28/6/16 and it was honestly a much better experience than I was expecting. The Surgeon, pre-op Staff, recovery Staff and ward staff at Churchill hospital OUH were so caring and kind.
Following my transfer to the ward, I had my own room, which given my level of embarrassing symptoms was very welcome. The room was comfortable and spotlessly clean. I was introduced to my nurse and given everything I needed to be able to feel safe, comfortable and dignified.
The ward is clearly busy but I didn't have to wait long for attention as I was up several times in the night and needed assistance as my mobility was initially poor.
I am well positioned to make comparisons to my previous
NHS Trust in UHCW, whilst the consultants were truly excellent, the lack of ward staff, aftercare and cleanliness on the ward was poor, having had 9 previous operations there since 2009, it has become progressively worse unfortunately in my opinion.
I was referred to and then transferred to OUH following the departure of my Consultant at UHCW who emigrated in 2015 and have been with my new team in Oxford since then.
Thank you, I am now home recovering and have already been discussing my experience with my family. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend you. Whilst my medical journey is not yet over, I have every confidence that I am in the best possible hands. I only wish I could personally name some of the lovely staff I encountered.
"Caring, sensitive and professional."
