I know this may seem strange to a lot of people as my bad experience is from 18 months ago but this how long it's been on my mind, and still will be for a long time.
I was taken to A&E via ambulance after a 12 foot fall from a ladder (the paramedics were amazing, one called Rebecca). The nurses were also amazing putting my mind at rest as this was my first trip to hospital and arriving on a spinal board and neck brace. The first doctor that saw me was very good in getting me X-rayed on my back, neck and foot and a C. T scan on my back and neck, (my foot being the most painful and very swollen). I then saw another doctor with the good news that my back & neck were fine but I had a tiny chip in one of the bones in my foot. I was told to go home and just walk on it, it was double in size and very very painful. My husband had to demand some crutches as I couldn't put it down never mind walk on it. The doctor made me feel like a fraud and that I was exaggerating the pain. After 7 days of walking on it still in total agony, I had a call from A&E asking me to come back after them reviewing my X-rays. They decided to put it in a back slab and was given an appointment to come back to fracture clinic a few days later to have a full cast put on. The doctor I saw in clinic 11 was amazing he was very concerned about my foot because of the swelling and he could not feel a pulse. So he got me an urgent C. T scan. I was admitted straight away staying in for 5 days. Then a few weeks later I was in theatre having 2 plates, 4 pins and 2 screws put into my foot.
This has been my first experience going to A&E and I have never felt so disappointed, angry and humiliated. We put our trust in these doctors but they make mistakes too! ! !
