My mother in law was admitted to Ward 21 CCU, via A and E at the at VKH.. She had experienced an MI in December of last year. She called my husband to let him know she was experiencing chest pain. I told her to call 999 but she chose to call GP surgery. I arrived quickly( approx 10 minutes after call) and she was still on phone to receptionist. She was told she was in a queue to speak to a nurse. I saw that, although she was pain free, she was extremely hot and clammy and had experienced tightening of chest, pain radiating up her left arm into her jaw. I immediately called 999 and they arrived within minutes. The Paramedic and Ambulance technician were from Dunfermline depot and were excellent. Very professional, kept her calm and reassured her every step of way. She was then transported to A and E at the VKH and was received into resus.
I was kept informed of her progress, every step of way and was able to report back to rest of family she was being extremely well cared for. Everything was carried out with precision, very fast and efficient and above all compassion. All was explained clearly and concisely to her at every step. It transpired, she has indeed suffered another MI although due to extremely prompt intervention of all team, so far minimal damage. She was transferred to CCU, where her condition is stable at present.
I would just like to convey our heartfelt( no pun) thanks to all staff members SAS Crew, Receptionist at A and E. all the staff who's care she was under during her brief visit to resus and all the team at CCU.
Exemplary care given by all involved. NHS Fife at its very best. Please pass on our gratitude to all concerned.
