"All of the staff were kind, courteous, and nothing was too much trouble for any of them."

About: North Devon District Hospital / General surgery

(as the patient),

My stay in hospital was on the Turka Ward, for a knee replacement. My first upset was an anesthetist who referred to me a bulk. I am overweight. His manner was quite rude.

I am pleased to say that this rudeness did not continue with other staff. My first encounter was with Mike, a night nurse. I was dubious about a male nurse giving me a bedpan, but he was caring matter-of-fact and nothing was too much trouble. Maria, who worked with him, took trouble with washing me and checking personal areas.

All of the staff were kind, courteous, and nothing was too much trouble for any of them. This includes ALL staff, not just nursing; including catering, cleaning and the porters. I was so impressed, even the food was excellent. I can't wait to come in for my next operation.

Response from Jayne Kruszewski, Customer Relations Manager, Northern Devon Healthcare NHS Trust

Dear Patient

Firstly thank you for taking the time to post your comments on the website. I was very sorry to learn that the anaesthetist was brusque, and should you wish me to feed this back to the individual I would ask you to contact PALS on 01271 314090 - or ndht.PALS@nhs.net giving us more personal information regarding your treatment.

I was, however, very pleased to see your stay on Tarka ward went so well, and that you would be happy to return to the hospital for further treatment.

I have forwrded your very kind comments to the Tarka ward manager where they will be shared with all the staff.

Many thanks once again
