What I liked

Epilepsy Nurses helpful after this appointment

What could be improved

My appointment was over 40 mins late. The Neurological Consulatnt I was seeing offered no apology for this.

Present were 2 people I presumed to be medical students, yet I was offered no explanation as to who they were or introduction and as per hospital protocol was not asked if I was happy for them to be present.

I was asked to repeat (as per last consultation with the same consultant) my medical history with regards to my epilepsy, the tests I had had done and my current and previous medication regimes.

The consultant's verbal communication was extremely poor (unclear), they were hurried, their 'bedside manner' appaling and the whole consultation rushed, lasting no longer than 10 minutes. Overall I felt I was not treated with any dignity or respect; the impact of my condition upon my well-being was never an issue, nor wether I was having any side-effects from my medication.

This was not the first time I had a poor experience with this consultant and in the end asked to be re-allocated to another consultant. upon speaking to other patients with epilepsy under their care my opinions of them were confirmed by their experiences.

Anything else?

For your information: Appointment was on 11/02/09 at 15:10 with a consultant, Neourology.

On many occasions I have telephoned the epilepsy nurses who have obtained my medical history efficiently and dealt with me in an extremely polite, caring and helpful manner.
