"Staff feel overstretched at Derriford"

I was taken to Derriford Hospital in february this year with gall stones and had to have an emergency laporoscopy ccholecystectomy as my liver function tests where abnormal. I found that my level of care was of a good standard, considering the lack of staff and growing admissions of patients to the ward.

I myself work at the hospital, and don't feel that this made any difference to my level of care.

But I do feel that some patients feel that their care is compramised, this is understandable, but this is not due to unwilling staff, but to loss of staff and overstretched wards.

The ward I work on is steadily getting worse, and with short staffing levels everyday and an increase of all care patients it is very hard for us.

It is not that we don't want to uphold the standard of care, it's that we haven't got the means to do so.

All staff try our hardest to uphold the standard of care, but with loss of staff, no support, growing numbers of patients, low wages, it is very hard,we feel devalued.

The NHS don't do anything for their staff, and because of this it is very hard to keep them.

We will continue to try our hardest to uphold patient care, as that is paramount, but the Government forget these things!
