"Nurses care"

About: Ninewells Hospital

(as the patient),

I was recently admitted into Ninewells hospital and was taken to ward 15, I was totally disgusted by the manner the nurses treated me. There body language and tone when talking to me made me think they did not want to be there and I was a inconvenience to them. After I was assessed and given an xray, I requested my medication, which I was told I was not receiving ( even though I have been on this medication for years). I tried to explain that I needed this due you my chronic abdominal pain, and again I was refused. It took my son to call and talk to someone before I got any medication. I was then transferred to ward 27, where the nurses and health care assistants were absolutely fantastic.

This was all after my previous experience of the time I was in hospital before when I was given an overdose of morphine by the nurse and I stopped breathing and had no pulse, it took my partner to go to get a nurse as I was given injection and then left alone in the room. If he had not been there I would not be here today as all I remember is getting the injection then waking up receiving CPR and my chest was really sore.

I really am scared of being admitted into Ninewells due to previous negative experiences and I am due to how in for an operation which I am very apprehensive about.

I am extremely sorry to hear of your poor experience of our service and that this has resulted in you being scared to be admitted to Ninewells Hospital. The experience you have described is certainly not the standard of care we aim to provide within NHS Tayside and I very much appreciate you taking the time to highlight this. I will ensure that the issues you have raised are fully investigated and action taken to improve our service. In order to do so, I would like to obtain some specific information regarding your stay and offer support to you regarding your forthcoming operation. I would be extremely grateful if you could contact me via the Complaints and Feedback Team on 0800 027 5507 (freephone) or via email to feedback.tayside@nhs.net

I look forward to hearing from you.

Kind regards.

Alison Moss

I appreciate you taking the time you respond, however I have already requested a complaints form and I am considering seeking legal advice as giving a patient an overdose send killing them is complete negligence.

I will give you a call, to discuss.

Thank you

Update posted by BMS51UK (the patient)

I have spoken to the complaints department and my story is to be looked into, I am currently awaiting the outcome of this complaint.

I have an operation due and I am extremely anxious regarding this and the time I will be in hospital for.

I have already refused to contact NHS 24 when I have required medical assistance outwith my GP hours as I am terrified of been taken to Ninewells hospital again due to previous experience.

Unfortunately I cannot have my operation at another hospital and this has caused me great distress and anxiety.

The nightmares I have are nothing as to the psychological effect this has had to my mental health and to my partner and relationship. The negative experience I had within the hospital has had a massive impact on all aspects of my life.

I will add further information to this once I receive the outcome of my complaint.

I just hope that people learn from the experience I had and this does not happen to anyone else as I would not wish this on anybody.
