In May 2016 I found a lump, the nurse practitioner sent me for screening and a week later I found I had breast cancer.
3 weeks later, my partner and I split up, I had to move out of my home. So I lost my partner, my home, my step kids, my dogs, my security and friends. The next day I lost my right breast too.
After surgery I started chemo. The steroids and the massive trauma I was going through caused me to have a psychotic breakdown and I was sectioned for a week, and under the home care team from Argyle House for some weeks after.
I continued my treatment, and in November saw my doctor at Avenue Medical Practice as I was struggling with anxiety and some physical symptoms. My doctor suggested I talk to either Weston Park or Argyle House.
In March I saw my doctor again, as I was suffering with moderate to severe depression and needed some help. I asked my doctor to put me on anti-depressants and for some counselling. My doctor gave me a prescription for Fluoxitine and told me there was no counselling available. No follow up appointment was made.
I transferred to my current GP practice where I am pleased to say I have been very well supported and am doing really really well.
I would like to feed this back to you, I think there were things the practice and my doctor could have done differently which may have helped me when I really needed it.
"How I nearly lost my life to breast cancer."
