"Laparoscopic Bilateral Inguinal Hernia Repair"

About: Homerton University Hospital

I have epilepsy so attended a couple of pre-assessment clinics which left nothing to chance when the operation was carried out.

They also take infection control very seriously - with swabs being taken of new surgical patients.

On the day of the operation I arrived at the Surgical Centre at 7.30am, given a gown and shown to a chair in a curtained cubicle.

My wife was allowed to sit with me for a couple of hours as I was about number 6 on the list.

She was then asked to leave, when I was taken into the actual surgical Unit about 2.00pm.

I sat on a comfy chair for about half an hour while the Anaesthetist carefully checked my details.

About half an hour after this, I was taken into Theatre.

The Surgical Team (6 of them) explained everything that was going to happen and I was given an injection to send me to sleep.

The operation took place about 2.30pm and took about an hour and a half.

After the operation I woke up in a bed feeling O.K and there was a nurse sitting near me.

I phoned my Wife and she came and sat with me.

I was given information by another nurse about my recovery.

I was given a sandwich and a juice.

I noticed that in a few of the other cubicles some of the patients were throwing up - apparently this is perfectly normal as some people react badly to the anaesthetic.

I didn’t throw up until I got home!

About 5.00pm I was allowed to go home as I was feeling O.K.

I chose the Homerton Hospital based on the CQC report and reviews like this.

I’m glad I did as the Hospital is clean and the staff are really excellent.

I can’t praise the Surgical Team highly enough.
