"Hernia operation"

About: Solihull Hospital

My father recently attended Solihull hospital for a hernia operation.

My dad is suffering with the early stages of dementia.

My mum was worried and did not want to leave him on his own.

She explained this to the staff nurse who straight away said that they would accommodate her in a room close to the ward.

My mum was able to see my dad being wheeled off for his operation and saw him return to the ward.

While he was waiting to go down for his operation they let him stay in the room where they had put mum.

This ensured both of them were very relaxed and happy and the operation went well.

Dear Anonymous

thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback following your father's recent hernia operation at Solihull Hospital.

I am so pleased to read that as soon as your Mom conveyed her concern about leaving your Dad because of his dementia, that Mom was provided with an area to wait and could observe your Dad leaving for theatre and most importantly, returning. I'm sure Mom would have been worried about Dad being disorientated, particularly after having a general anaesthetic!

Can I ask you to contact me so that I can gain some more information and ensure that your thanks are passed along to exactly the right ward and senior staff? They will then be able to highlight your feedback to all of their team. Positive feedback and thanks from our patients and families give a great boost to our staff who do work very hard on a daily basis to provide a positive patient (and spouse!) experience.

I can be contacted on 0121 424 0808 or by email: marie.helebert@nhs.net

I hope this is acceptable and look forward to hearing from you at your convenience.

Kind regards

Marie Helebert
