"Disgusted in the night staff"

About: Princess Alexandra Hospital (Harlow)

My grandmother recently had a hip replacement done at the Alex. After the op she stayed in 4 nights. On the first night of her stay my nana was in a lot of pain due to just having her op done a few hours earlier, the position she was lay in and weight on her bottom with the scar finishing on her bottom made her very uncomfortable and in a lot of pain. During her first night the nurses came in to do pressure relief. 2 hours later my nana had asked for another minute of pressure relief due to the awful pain she was feeling, to which one of the night staff nurses replied 'oh no you have had some already today' and turning the light off on their way out and slamming shut the door. This left my poor nana in a lot of distress and agony, not to mention the amount of sweat due to stress and feeling very agitated. After trying to wiggle herself around a bit for a bit of relief she had pulled the alarm out of the wall she used to call the nurses for attention. 3 hours later after shouting at the top of her voice for attention as the alarm didn't work and crying in pain and stress, someone finally came in to her, at this point she was bursting to use the toilet due to having a fluid drip in so she needed to use the toilet a lot more frequently. She had asked to use the bed pan so the nurse went off to get one returning one hour later. After my nana had used the bed pan, instead of the nurse cleaning her up after urination they lay her back on her bed all wet, (using a bed pan isn't the easiest and it had gone everywhere) which again left my nana uncomfortable and again stressed out Adding this to her pain and her tiredness. I visited the day after to find my nana very very lethargic and overly tired, to which I now understand that the nights stay had caused this, she was very very stressed and very tired, I think it is absolutely disgusting the way my nana was treated after her operation and that the staff were disgusting towards her. Whilst visiting through the day I saw a few things myself off a few members of staff which I didn't like, such as placing there hand on my nanas wound to move her over which my nana had shouted out in pain a couple of times. Doctors waking her up while she slept by moving her head instead of calmly talking her awake. After hearing why my nana told me about her first nights stay in the hospital has upset me and disgusted me. She has said herself if she ever needs a hip operation or any kind of hospital medical attention then the Alex has put her off for life.
