"Long wait for a bed"

About: Tameside General Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

(as a staff member posting for a carer/relative),

This story has been posted by Healthwatch Tameside on behalf of a member of the public who wanted to remain anonymous. We do not have their contact details. They said..

My husband was told to come into the ward at 7 in the morning for a hip replacement. He had to sit in pain for over 9 hours waiting for a bed. They could have rung us and he could have stayed at home in comfort for some of that time at least.

We are sorry you have had cause to raise these concerns and that your experience fell below the standard we expect.

We are currently looking at waiting times as part of the Theatre Improvement project.

We are also in the process of amending our letters to include an all-day letter that informs the patient that they will be here all day but may not go to Theatre until pm.
