What I liked

most of the staff work very hard and would like to have more time to spend in caring for the patients but it is evident that they have become immune to people coming and going quickly. i was informed that Rotherham ward A2 never close and only ever to on red alert meaning they have to process people through quickly and this shows.

What could be improved

my mother has recently died at the hospital and whilst she was in every time i visited i had to remove pieces of plastic from the bed or under her arms and other parts of her body as she didnt have the strength to do it herself. the pieces came from various sources ie needle covers, nebuliser solution packs and medicine cups., this is slack on the respect of care and should not happen to an elderly lady who has no way of making herself more comfortable.

Anything else?

after we had been told my mum would not recover from her illness we were left on a ward in full view of other patients and visitors for 16 hours before she was moved into a private room. no phone call was made to a family member to advise her condition had deteriorated rapidly and her orthapedice air bed had been unplugged so had deflated so she was in effect laid on a metal plate with only a rubber sheet in between. She has regularly in tha past been admitted to Doncaster hospital as she had extensive nose bleeds and the difference in the care she recieved and the cleaniliness of the 2 is remarkable and given the choice she would always go to Doncaster and not Rotherham especially ward A2, she was able to compare as she had also been on A5 and one of the elderly wards. finally her best friend of 45 years was admitted to ward A4 2 days before she died and despite asking several times how her friend was doing and if the nurses could let me know she was inHer friend was never told how poorly my mum was and I was not informed she was there deprving me of the opportunity to have brought her round to A2 to pay her respects and say goodbye to her friend
