"Bad communication"

About: Basildon University Hospital

My husband suffered a stroke while on holiday in the Philippines and made a very good recovery.

He was referred to the Stroke Department of the hospital on return and we were very happy that we only had to wait a few days for an appointment.

When we saw the doctor they said that the hospital could do all the scans in one day and then they would see my husband with the results on the same day, they also wanted a monitor fitted.

This sounded very good, however on the day only a MRI brain scan and an ultra-scan on his neck was performed and a telephone consultation that afternoon.

The Doctor said it could be a blocked artery in the neck that had caused the stroke and a further CAT scan would have to be performed.

My husband had to wait 4 weeks for the scan which he had on Sunday 22nd May we have now been told after constant phone calls that we will have to wait up to two weeks for the results.

Why does it take so long to view something that is on the computer instantly?

Why is it so difficult to get through to any department in the Hospital on the telephone although the switch board operators try very hard to find someone to pick up a phone.

Why are communications so bad?

Although he has recovered really well we have not been offered any help with memory loss and remembering names, no blood checks to see if the drugs he is on are working.

To date no appointment for having a monitor fitted or an appointment to find out the results and the way forward.

My biggest fear is that another stroke will occur while we are waiting.
