"Visiting a friend"

About: North Middlesex Hospital

In visiting a close friend I found that the staff appear to be very efficient ,however sadly the the emotional needs of the patient don't seem to be addressed. My friend has had a stroke and is low in mood so a few kind words to him and the other patients would make them feel that the staff see them as human and not just a body in a bed 😞

Thank you for your feedback. Your comments in relation to the emotional needs of our patients' is an issue which all the ward staff are aware and we have put in place some important processes for our stroke patients which address this issue. As part of the stroke standards all patients have their mood assessed on admission and through out their stay. Any patient assessed as low in mood is referred to psychology and attempts are made to address it. I am the managing director for acute stroke service, aisling.bowman1@nhs.net and would welcome any further comments you may wish to send.
