I accidentally stabbed myself in the arm in the kitchen on Saturday 28th May 2016. It was bleeding heavily but eventually it slowed down. I dreaded the thought of going to A&E over the weekend with all the drunks. Sunday morning I thought I'd call the Urgent Care Centre on London Road, who told me to go straight down. After seeing an extremely busy Triage nurse who was running behind, I was advised that I may need stitches and they didn't do them there. I then went to the QMC A&E Dept around 11:00am, I went to A&E reception and was greeted by a very abrupt member of staff who proceeded to ask me questions in a very fast and authoritative manner. I then saw the triage nurse who was very friendly, professional calm and reassuring. It was busy in the dept and I waited 2 hours, which wasn't that bad to say it was a bank holiday weekend. I eventually saw different nurses who did an excellent job. Each one of them showed a great deal of professionalism, empathy and gave me great care. I was given some free antibiotics for my wound. We are so lucky to have the NHS and I'd never take it for granted. The staff are pushed to the limit, yet they still show care and do a superb job. Yesterday I went back to get my wound cleaned up and I went to A&E reception, I was informed I needed to go round to the Fracture clinic, which I thought odd as I was told I'd be seen at A&E. I proceeded to go round to the FC still unsure if it was right, then the same member of staff came rushing after me realising they had told me wrong. They were very helpful and again very professional in their manner. Thanks to all the staff your care and integrity are greatly appreciated.

I’m sorry to hear one of our staff came across as abrupt. I have shared your comments with our Emergency Department staff so they know their work is appreciated by patients and also to highlight how we come across to patients in some of the conversations we have (so we can learn from this).
