(as the patient),

I had my baby at Aberdeen maternity midwives unit in January 2016.

The care I received in the midwives unit was excellent. I felt well cared for and supported.

I then went to the ward and felt that it was short staffed and the midwives did not have the time to care for patients the way they would have wanted. I didn't want to bother them as I could see they were overstretched and so felt a little unsupported though I'm sure if I had asked for help I would have gotten it. I was in a tiny bed space and the wards are overpacked too.

Breast feeding needs more support too.

Over all it was clean everywhere and staff were friendly and caring. More staff and bigger wards are obviously needed though.

Well done staff of Aberdeen maternity hospital.

Many thanks for taking time out to post your feedback on Patient Opinion. I can see that your experience was mixed. I will make sure that the staff concerned are made aware of the great job they are doing and I will also pass on your less positive comments to the managers of that area.

It is good to know that you found the ward clean and comfortable and that the staff were kind and friendly.

We know that our maternity hospital is a bit old and tired and we do the best we can in the space we have. We are actually building a new facility which will cater for mothers and babies. It will be called the Baird Family Hospital and it is due to open in 2020. We are confident that it will meet all the needs of our population in the future.
