I would like to thank the wonderful staff at Aberdeen Maternity Hospital. Last year myself and my husband were told at our 12 week scan that unfortunately there was no heartbeat seen and I was subsequently admitted to Rubislaw ward. I myself work within in the NHS and understand that working with difficult and upsetting situations is part of our day to day job. However, we are not robots and I take my hat off to these staff who were incredibly supportive throughout this upsetting time. They all showed us compassion, empathy and warmth which gave us the strength we needed at a very difficult time.
Fast forward one year on and we have just gave birth to our beautiful baby girl. And yet again I can not thank the staff enough. We had a surprise arrival 1 month early and I had experience in westburn, labour ward, theatre and both postnatal wards. I had 4 days as an inpatient leading up to our little ones arrival during which the staff in westburn (Susan, Charlene) and labour ward (Jo, Sharon) helped me make informed decisions throughout the way.
Thankfully baby didn't need the neonatal nursery but we did need a few days on the postnatal wards.
During this time I received what only can be described as amazing support from all staff. As a first time mum, I was completely naive to how tiring and stressful it would be. I would also like to say a special thank you to Louise, Anne and Donella. I was really keen to breast feed and I have now been breastfeeding for 9 weeks. Despite the ward clearly being extremely busy with what seemed to be a small ratio of staff to patients I am sure that I would not have achieved this if it had not been for their dedication and support.
Thanks again to everyone who helped in mine and my daughters care, making it a memorable and positive experience!
