About: Good Hope Hospital

Midwife on delivery suite was amazing and so supportive during induction and failed epidural, sthe midwife was kind and nothing was too much trouble.

the nurses on special care unit were very supportive with helping me establish breastfeeding and expressing of milk for my baby.

Staff on postnatal ward were kind and understanding of a hormonal and emotional new parents whose baby was on special care unit.

The only negative I would say about the experience, was that my partner had to insist that postnatal staff did not mention breastfeeding to me as I was struggling to get baby to latch to the breast, and this was making me depressed as a result - I felt like I was being pressured to breastfeed (which I wanted to and was trying to) But as my baby would not cooperate, I felt no option but to formula feed until my milk came through. A lot of this I put down to spiralling hormones and emotions through my baby having to be readmitted to special care unit due to jaundice. We were in hospital for 5 days in total.

Overall a great experience and would definitely recommend to others.

Dear Anonymous

Thank you very much for taking the time to provide your feedback regarding your induction and birth of your baby. May I offer my congratulations to you.

I'm so pleased to read that you found the staff on special care to be supportive and helpful, and also the staff on your post-natal ward were kind and understanding.

It must have been a very worrying time when your baby needed to be admitted to special care unit to be treated for jaundice, it can all be very overwhelming with a new baby, and I'm sure you and your partner were most relieved to be able to take baby home after 5 days in hospital. Thank you for your comments that overall you had a great patient experience, and that you would recommend Good Hope Hospital Maternity Services to others.

I will ensure that your feedback is highlighted to our Head of Midwifery Services so that she can ensure your feedback is communicated to all of the Good Hope Team.

I hope this is acceptable; patient experience is extremely important to us.

Again, my congratulations to you and your family.

Kind regards

Marie Helebert
