"Good Stay"

About: Wexham Park Hospital

My brother was the patient not me!! He was recently admitted to ward 5, following a referral from A&E . We were all very pleased in all aspects off his care . The staff were very professional and caring . He had a minor procedure a few days after admission - all went well .

Unfortunately the discharge procedure really let the hospital down . He was discharged by the doctors at 3pm , he then started his wait for his TTA`s to be delivered to the ward . He waited and waited!!! Until one of the nurses tried to track them down, to find that they had been delivered to the wrong ward . The Nurse went themself and collected them, and my sister-in-law went to bring my brother home at 9.45 pm . Really very unsatisfactory for all concerned . He waited almost 7 hours in all !!

He did stay on ward 5 . and wasn't taken to the discharge ward at all .

So there was a `blip` in the procedure , making everyone very cross with the waiting about.

But as I said we were all very happy , just the last few hours let it down .

Dear Sandy

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback on your brother's recent stay.

I'm glad to hear that you were pleased with all aspects of his care and found the staff to be professional and caring. I'm sorry to read that he had a long wait for his medications to take home.

There is often a delay between when the doctors tell a patient they will be going home, to them finishing the rest of the ward round and then coming back to complete the prescription for pharmacy.

Our pharmacy team have a turn around time of just under 2 hours from receiving the prescription to getting it back to the ward.

I am sincerely sorry the tablets were sent to the wrong ward and he had to wait longer than I would normally expect.

We are recruiting some volunteer pharmacy runners to help reduce the waiting time as well.

Hopefully he is now recovering well

Thank you for your feedback

Kind Regards

Claire Marshall
