"I believe this could have pushed another mother over the edge."

About: University Hospital Wishaw / Trauma & orthopaedics

(as the patient),

I recently had an accident, falling down the stairs with my 5 month old daughter and visited wgh to have her checked out. Unfortunately she suffered a hairline fracture on her skull. Although it was very upsetting, I understand the procedure is the contact child protection and the child protection officer was very kind to me. The same can not be said for some of the nurses and doctors who were really dismissive of me and at times I was made to feel like I wasn't there. Before I was reported, the nurses couldn't have been nicer saying what a happy baby I had but when I was there I was barely spoken to.

I am putting my opinion on here as I believe this could have pushed another mother over the edge.

Dear Kirst87

Thank you for taking the time to post your Patient Opinion. I was sorry to hear that you had a fall resulting in an injury to your daughter. This must have been a very distressing time for you.

When children and young people present to the Emergency Department with accidental injuries it is routine that we share information with other agencies and while I appreciate that this can sometimes add to the already distressing time this is to ensure we are '' getting it right for every child'' which I hope you feel reassured around and that you found the visiting professional kind during the assessment.

I was concerned to read of you experience with the Doctors and Nurses and I'm very sorry that it was not a more positive one. This is not the service we aspire to deliver.

It is important for the Nursing and Medical Team to learn from patient experience and I would be grateful for the opportunity to investigate this further on your behalf. If you would be happy for us to do this please contact Patient Affairs on 01698 366558.

I hope your baby is making a good recovery.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Best wishes

Andy
