"Lack of care"

About: Queen Margaret Hospital Queen Margaret Hospital / Urology Victoria Hospital / Urology Whytemans Brae Hospital

(as the patient),

Since being diagnosed last year with a life changing condition I have had so many doctors and nurses treat me with no respect. I was 20 when I was diagnosed with a chronic illness yet I have been past from pillar to post with no one having the correct knowledge to help me. I have been given mixed messages and now see over 10 different specialists. Early this year I started to experience problems with my mental health and it has drastically went down hill. Yet still I get no help, doctors trying to make out that they have done everything and telling me how I should feel.

Dear Fowlerslife

Thank you for taking the time to tell us about yourself and how you are feeling, it sounds like a difficult situation. We expect people to be treated with respect at all times and therefore it is disappointing to hear that you do not feel respected by those providing care. A sense of being passed from pillar to post is not helpful and I appreciate this has had a negative impact on you. I know that it can at times be necessary to get the views from a range of specialists to ensure an appropriate diagnosis and I wonder if this is what has been happening in your case. I was concerned to hear that your mental health is suffering and would urge you to continue to seek support for that. If you would like to discuss this further please contact me directly and I will find out if there is anyone else who can help.

Regards

Louise Ewing

Update posted by Fowlerslife (the patient)

Hi Louise

Thank you for getting back to me. I feel that since my health condition started a year ago I've not been heard properly. Whilst being in hospital I have heard staff speak about me to colleagues while standing not far from my room where I end up hearing things they shouldn't be talking about. I feel because my condition is not well known, it's been a harder struggle. Because of my time in hospital overall the past year this has had a serious impact on me. I'm struggling a lot with my mental health state because of my physical condition. I had spoken to someone about putting in a complaint but my health had deteriorated shortly after and I never followed up. Do I contact you through this website? Thank you for replying to my message.
