"Hospital Stay"

About: Chesterfield Royal Hospital

I was only in for a short while but I have to say the treatment I received was excellent.

I would like to say that no request seamed to much trouble for the nurses but I can’t say that as whatever you could reasonably expect, drink, food etc. was provided before I had to ask, but having heard other people request things every effort was made to accommodate them.

The doctors kept me up to date with my condition and treatment.

Also I noticed on a number of occasions members of staff come into the department and I say they had finished whatever task they were doing and was there anything they could do to help whoever they were talking to, so I seemed to be a real team effort.

On my first visit back to the hospital, due to my condition I had been left with a bad limp, I had been dropped off at the hospital main entrance and as I went through the door a member of the cleaning staff was just arriving and straight away she offered to get a wheelchair and somebody to take me to the CDU department where I was going.

During my stay I also I witnessed a number of shall we say some more challenging patients who would a best be regarded as awkward, these too were treated with compassion and dignity that perhaps they did not always deserve.

It just remains for me to thank all members of the staff for the wonderful treatment I received.

Response from Chesterfield Royal Hospital

Thank you for your really kind comments. I was delighted to read about your positive experiences in hospital and that you felt staff had worked together as a team for patients.

You don't say which ward you stayed on, but I will share your post with our heads of nursing so they can show all staff what a difference it makes when all aspects of a patient's stay are well-catered for and how important good communication is in keeping people informed.

I hope you are improving at home and wish you all the best for a continued recovery.

Kind regards Sarah Turner-Saint, Head of Communications
