Anything else?

What is it with Derrifords dual personality. So much of it is staffed by truly caring professional and well managed staff. Why is it that you only have to step over the threshold of another ward or department and you find yourself at the opposite end of the spectrum.

Once ‘in the system’ this place is great. Getting in the system, especially if you are a frail non complaining OAP is shockingly poor. Please, Please address the shortcomings of the Medical Assessment wards. This is often the first introduction for patients to the system and its level of care for worried patients and family is astoundingly poor. The ward is claustrophobic, confused and lacks any ability to cope with patients suffering from unrelated physical ailments or disabilities. This would be less of a problem if the assessment was completed in a couple of hours, not the 18-24hrs as has been my experience on a number of occasions. On my latest visit, the passive/aggressive approach of communication adopted by some of the senior members of the nursing staff was disgraceful. I really hated making that last comment, as so many of the nursing staff in this hospital are wonderful professionals, but felt it had to be said.
