"IVF consultation"

About: St Mary's Hospital (Manchester)

During the initial tests held at the hospital I was very happy with how sensitivily the matter was dealt with by the nursing team.

I'm afraid I can't say this for how our first consultation appointment. We were not given any support or guidance for the process that we're going through. My husband was made to feel as though it's his fault. No medication was offered or guidance on how to improve our chances. The questions were given to us very fast and we wernt given the time to process the information. I became upset at one point from the news we were given, the consultant didn't pause or ask if we needed a moment. She just carried on and spoke faster, when we had questions she shrugged her shoulders and didn't respond to us. We are unsure of the next stage and the long waiting times in between each appointment is stressful.

I am disappointed as a fellow NHS employee at the level of compassion that was not shown. Trust values were not taken into consideration. We are both upset and unsure of what's happening.

Thank you for your feedback. I am sorry to learn that your experience was not as positive as we would hope in the Department of Reproductive Medicine and that you felt the values and behaviours we expect from all staff members were not demonstrated in your appointment. It is important to us that comments are heard and seen as an opportunity provided to individuals and the team to make changes and improvements wherever possible.

In response to your comment, I can tell you that we are looking at the whole patient pathway and how we can improve our appointment system and will ensure that your concerns are raised directly with the staff involved so that your feedback can help to inform the changes we need to make.

It is difficult to respond to all the posts in a full way often because of a lack of detailed information, therefore if you would like to discuss this with us in more detail, please feel free to contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service on 0161 276 8686 or by e-mailing pals@cmft.nhs.uk
