"Awful treatment of my husband"

About: Basildon University Hospital / General medicine

(as a relative),

The other night my daughter and I took my husband to Basildon A&E. He was in a lot of pain and while there he passed several kidney stones. After having a scan it was decided to keep him in for the night.

He was given a room which had no pillows. We asked for a pillow and were told they had none! The doctor said he was to drink a lot of water. We asked for some but one and a half hours later they still hadn't got him any. He needed to take his medication but we hadn't taken it with us.  They refused to give him any. Also no pain relief was offered either.

As my husband is partially paralysed due to a stroke he needed help with things, but they obviously weren't going to help him with toilet etc. so we had no choice but to bring him home at 2.30 am. I will be taking this matter further. It was disgusting treatment of a man in pain, who couldn't help himself.

I am very sorry to hear that you are not happy with your Husbands experience at Basildon and Thurrock University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Can I encourage you to contact the Patient, Advice and Liaison Service on pals@btuh.nhs.uk or 01268 524900 ext 4441, where they will be able to take more details from you regarding the ward your Husband was admitted to, allowing us to address this with the relevant staff.
