"worst community midwife service possible"

About: North Middlesex Hospital

I cannot express how frustrating my experience has been with my antenatal care, so much that after 16 weeks I am switching to another hospital.

My first scan appointment was cancelled without any reason and without being notified. I basically found out when I turned up for the appointment! I was booked for the day after which means 1 day and half taken off work for me and my partner.

Then at my 16 weeks follow up, the letter I was sent had no address or location, so I called both numbers given (community midwife and birth center). I called those numbers non stop for 3 days! Can you imagine, for 3 days I left messages and no one has ever called me back! I found out from the antenatal dept receptionist that my appointment was again cancelled! This is shameful, how can this be called a "service" when they cannot operate basic function such as answering the phone or at least give a call back.

This has been a nightmare and caused a lot of stress by sheer incompetence, and to be honest, it doesn't inspire trust as it clearly show that the midwifes don't care at all about their patients.

So sorry you experienced a poor standard.

Your first point of contact with the midwifery team should be positive and this is not the standard we expect our patients to receive.

I am the head of midwifery, g.slevin@nhs.net and will be discussing in detail the issues you raised highlighting the inconvenience you experienced and what effects this has for our service
