"Detached Retina surgery - excellent at first,..."

About: Manchester Royal Eye Hospital

I had surgery for a detached retina in Nov 15.

Excellent surgical care.

Follow up appointment in January revealed something was't quite right.

The issue was unknown and it was suggested if no improvement in 2 months, after a March appointment, more surgery would be needed.

It is now mid May and still waiting for the March appointment.

I am paying for eye tests at opticians just for them to check if the retina is still attached.

It hasn't improved.

Poor vision.

Double vision.

Eye pain

Every time, bar one,

I call to check for the appointment I get told they are busy and 'I am on the list'.

I spoke to a nice person a couple of days ago who was surprised it has been left unchecked for so long and said they would try and find another doctor to take the appointment.

Said they would call back the following day - still no phone call.

When I call to ask, I get told there is a back log, and.......I am on the list

The initial very impressive impression is now being replaced with frustration and concern.

I know something is wrong, no idea if it is serious or if I need more surgery.

Aside from this issue, I understand there is a high risk of redetachment within the first 6 and 12 months yet nobody at the eye hospital has looked at the eye for four months

Ms H Bateman, Matron at MREH was very sorry to receive your comments and concerns via the NHS Choices website about your expected appointment at the Eye Hospital. We take all issues surrounding patient care and communication very seriously. However, it is very difficult to respond to the concerns to have raised without being able to investigate in detail. To do this we would need more information. Please contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service on 0161 276 8686 or by e-mailing pals@cmft.nhs.uk they will be happy to discuss this with you and liaise with the relevant department at the Eye Hospital.
