"How many times can you be let down?"

About: Rotherham Doncaster and South Humber NHS Foundation Trust / Adult mental health

(as the patient),

Well were do i begin??!!

I started feeling really depressed in Nov 09 and with the help of a close friend i chose to attend hospital for help as my GP couldn't get my medication balanced.

I was seen by a lovely lady from CRISIS HOME TREATMENT TEAM who offered me any help i wanted or more to the point NEEDED.

I then had to wait about a week (because of cancellations) before 1st home assesment.

My husband and i were together for the visit and at no point was the service explained fully, We were under the impression the service would continue to help and monitor me until i had an appointment to see a psychiatrist

.

WRONG they came as and when they pleased to see me. I was supposed to be being monitored for suicidal toughts or intentions but was ony asked when the better of the staff came to visist me. Some staff were excellent but most made me feel like i was putting them out by them having to visit me.

And often delivered my strong medications and gave them to me so if i'd wanted to at that point i'd could now be long gone to a far away place. ( I had previously tried to overdose twice but hadn't had enough pills to do it right but they were handing me the pills to do it??!!)

I seemed to just be discharged at at point where myself and my husband were at crisis point. They simply delivered my months supply of pills and said here's the phone number ring if you need us!!!

At that point i was at the lowest i could go and did try to ring once for advice and was talked to like a child, So now would never ever ring them in a crisis.

They had diagnosed me with some random depression and since i've seen the psychiatist he's totally changed my medication and diagnosed me as having very severe depression and post traumatic stress disorder too.

I feel really let down by the whole experience and think they may have made me feel worse because i was so poorly and currently still feel just as ill.

I do intend once i feel a little better to write and put a formal complaint in.

The team is not organised and i think need re-training on how to help people in crisis and not make people feel worse!!

Good luck to all who have this team in to help you!

Thank you for posting, we are sorry that you havent had a good experience of services.

It is really hard to address some of the issues you raise without knowing more about which services you are taking about.

We will pass your comments on to our commissioners in mental health services.

If you live in Rotherham please contact our Patient Advice Services on 01709 531303 who would be able to discuss these issues in more depth with you.
