What could be improved
Waiting time at A&E is appalling at all times of day. I attended with my 2 year old granddaughter who was in pain from severe rash and fever. Took over 2 hours to be seen, only for the doctor to dismiss the rash as a reaction caused by a change of baby bath (despite our protests that we hadn't changed this) and a categorical statement that it wasn't chicken pox. Unhappy with the diagnosis, we went to Bassetlaw hospital the next day: the staff prioritised my granddaughter as she is so young, took great care to reassure her, and instantly diagnosed... Chicken Pox. This has not been our first negative experience at Rotherham: my wife was admitted with severe stomach cramps caused by adverse reaction to Codeine, I had to argue with staff to give her morphine pain relief as they said she'd be allergic to this too, even though we know she isn't. They have also given my wife Codeine for pain relief from ear infection despite marker on her records stating her intolerance to it, causing her to spend hours in agony. We've never used Rotherham Hospital since, and always ask to be treated at Bassetlaw instead where we've never had any problems.
Anything else?
It seems that Rotherham Hospital seem more concerned with having a lovely shopping centre instead of adequate staffing levels. The trust consistently achived great results in assessments, but then again so did Staffordshire! The hospital seems utterly driven by targets and sees patients as an inconvenience.
