"My endoscopy at UCLH"

I attended the UCLH endoscopy unit and it was generally all very good! Everyone was polite and courteous and welcoming. The endoscopy unit felt clean and safe. Staff introduced themselves and their role- mostly with a reassuring smile. The nurse who admitted me listened carefully and took notice of my concerns and medication allergies. The surgeon had great difficulty finding a vein for the cannula and I picked up on his frustration at the time it was taking (and that he had other patients etc to see). In the end he put it in my foot (which I had asked him not to do) without discussion. I was worried it wasn’t in as it really stung when he flushed it, and became anxious that the sedation wouldn’t work, although I came round before they had finished, so would have appreciated a top up of sedation. The after care was excellent and a student nurse on rotation there who had been with me throughout was particularly attentive and kind. She will be an excellent nurse in the future, once qualified. It wasn’t a pleasant procedure but the staff treated me with dignity and made it as bearable as possible. The only real ‘hospital’ problem is parking- there isn’t any due to its central London position, so it cost me £80 in taxi fares. However, this has no link to my treatment and I don’t see how any parking can be found. Thank you for providing this opportunity for feedback.
