"Excellent service followed by hell!"

About: Princess Anne Hospital

I gave birth to my beautiful daughter on the 4th May, in Broadlands. I can not fault the team on this ward they were amazing and there for me every step of the way, I felt 100% looked after and reassured during the birth of my first child and they were calm and encouraging through out. The team completely respected my wishes and birth plan and coached me through until the arrival of my daughter. They continued to offer me that high level of care and support through some complications after delivery and until I came home. I really can't fault them, nor sing their praises loud enough! What an amazing team! So why not a 5star review, well sadly I lost a lot of blood post delivery and whilst at home experienced some concerning symptoms, after calling the day assessment unit (on labour ward) they asked me to come in and have my vitals checked, so I did. I was assessed quickly by a lovely nurse and then left waiting on the bed in pain, tired, scared and with a newborn for 2.5hours!!!! Worse still I could hear the doctor talking about me and complaining that I was there - let me stress that I didn't ask to come in , I was asked to! After waiting all that time I was asked for my blood test results?! ( I am guessing looking it up themselves was a ridiculous thought) and was made to feel that I was time wasting. After explaining everything again ( I heard the nurse handover everything I told them) the doctor told me to go away and deal with it as everything I experienced was par for the course.......how would I know I am a FTM?!! Further more the doctor who saw me was patronising and hurt me whilst they checked my stitches, causing them to bleed. They have been sore and uncomfortable since. I pushed for more help but was told if I was that bothered to see my GP. There was no compassion or time spent with me, the doctor wanted in and out. I appreciate that the ward as busy but every patient should count regardless of how silly they think it might be! I left the ward and burst into tears, my beautiful baby girl was dragged out and left waiting with me for all that time and I was left to feel that I had wasted their time despite being asked to come in. Trust me the last thing I wanted was to be there at 1am and in pain!! It makes me so sad to write this because the team on Broadlands were so amazing and this one experience frankly has left me anxious and concerned to ask for support, fearing that I may be considered a time waster! For those women having a straight forward, low risk pregnancy go for Broadlands or the New Forest centre every step of the way- you won't regret it. If I reviewed the hospital solely based on my birth it would be 5star all the way. I am sad that the Doctors on Labour ward lack bedside manner and think so poorly of patients, it's a scary time and whilst we find our way mums need extra care, mentally and physically. It's not wrong to expect to be treated with dignity and respect regardless of the ward

Congratulations and thank you for your positive comments. I am sorry that this was marred by your trip to the assessment unit. I am very sorry that were not treated with dignity and made to feel you were wasting our time. Your comments will be passed onto the unit for their consideration. I hope you are enjoying your new daughter.
