"Toilet area could cause embarrassment for those having a colonoscopy"

About: Harrogate District Hospital / Gastroenterology

(as the patient),

I attended Harrogate District Hospital in mid April for a colonoscopy.

All I the staff met in the Endoscopy department were kind and efficient and put me at ease.

The department itself was cramped, had to get changed in an office, waiting area was very 'cosy'. The toilet was opposite the waiting area which could cause embarrassment for those having a colonoscopy.

Hello Sabadel

Many thanks for your comments. I've spoken with our Endoscopy manager.

We are building a new endoscopy unit, which is due to open next year. Toilets will be far more private I.e. not on the main corridor.

We acknowledge that the area is cramped. Again the new unit will tend to this issue as it will be much more spacious. Our current location was designed to service 4-6,000 procedures a year. We now do more than 11,000 hence the building of a new unit.

We're very pleased to hear that the staff were kind, efficient and put the patient at ease.

If you would like to ring and discuss any of your issues further, our Endoscopy manager would be pleased to speak with you. Alternatively, you may wish to see future plans which are in the manager's office - she'd be happy to show them to you. Lorraine Dyson can be contacted on 01423 553162.
