"lets talk wellbeing - shared too much with my GP"

About: Let’s Talk Well Being ( IAPT) – Nottinghamshire

(as the patient),

Had a lovely counsellor who helped me but I was shocked that at the end of my sessions when I was discharged that they wrote to my GP about why I self referred and my issues.

I did not want this to happen. It wasn't to do with medical grounds and to divulge why I went to them which was a personal matter is an invasion of my privacy and didn't warrant them telling my GP. .

I am very sorry to hear that you were not aware that a report would be sent to your GP following your treatment with the service. This is usually explained in the first session you have with the counsellor and I applogies if this was not clarified with you at the begining of your treatment. The reason we inform your GP is to ensure they are aware of the treatment you have recieved as they may require the report if they consider you require further treatment. We like to learn from any feedback and therefore I will remind staff to ensure they fully explain to patients at the begining of treatment that a report will be sent to their GP.

I was glad to hear you were comfortable working with the counsellor and that the treatment helped. Thank you for taking the timw to give feedback.
