"Psychology works, but I have serious concerns about our psychiatric system"

About: Ailsa Hospital Crosshouse Hospital / General Psychiatry

(as the patient),

I experienced Post Traumatic Stress Disorder as a result of experiencing multiple head injuries and other trauma. Unfortunately, every time I was presented in front of consultant psychiatrists from NHS Ayrshire and Arran over four years, all they could do was label me Depressive, Bi-polar, Psychotic, Schizophrenic and finally Schizo-effective. I was sectioned for coming off my medications - 5 anti- depressants, a mood stabiliser and an anti-psychotic (daily) and sought private psychology. I was then prescribed Respiradone. a drug I dangerously react too. I nearly died. It had been recorded that I had reacted to it dangerously in the past.

I survived my section ordeal by the Grace of God and continued my private psychology with rest.

I have asked for my medical records. I have serious concerns about the relationships between some staff and commercial drug companies. I know that Johnston and Johnston were fined £2 Billion in America for understating the side-affects of Respiradone in America during 2012.

In my opinion, these former mental health labels and associated mental health drugs have only been created to enrich big pharma companies, psychiatrists and lawyers who stalk the mentally ill. No effective psychology was ever offered to me. Just glad to be alive. Psychology works!!

I'm sorry to hear of your experience here in Ayrshire.

I hope that when you get a copy of your records it is also helpful in understanding the reasons why particular treatments/diagnosis were given at certain times - even though I fully appreciate that you don't agree with these decisions.

I do however note in your post that the psychological interventions you are now getting are of help, which is good to hear - best wishes with this.

Derek
