"My Autistic Son"

About: Lanarkshire Community Services / Adult Mental Health Services

(as a parent/guardian),

My son has been diagnosed with Autism and has been receiving input from CPNs over the last 6 months.

The mental health team dealing with my son appear to have no Autism training, they used Exposure therapy treatment and made a bad situation worse in my opinion, they did not take into consideration my sons Autism. They have now decided to withdraw the service.

There appears to be no one based in mental health trained in adults with Autism that can offer any help, only suggested that my son be re- referred to psychology which means going back onto a four month waiting list despite being known to the service.

My question now is where is my sons Patient Centred Care?  Health and social care are failing him, where is the joint working within integration? Where do I go now? What help is available?

This is impacting on my whole family life. This is a very stressful time for all my family, my son lives with Autism every day, his family do too. Autism has a voice when will someone listen?

Dear At Wits End Mother

I am so sorry to hear of your negative experience with our community mental health team and your concerns around their lack of knowledge they had in regards to his autism. Please accept my sincere apologies for the distress this has caused your son and your family.

I would like to meet with you to discuss your son's support needs in more detail and to agree a way forward that ensures your son receives person-centred care.

Please contact me on 01698 366987.

Best wishes.
