"My Husband"

About: Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust - City Campus / General medicine

(as the patient),

Taken to hospital just under three weeks ago with a stroke. Told he could go home last Monday which was great and a hospital bed was sent to our home. Then told unless he could get into a chair himself the ambulance couldn't stretcher him home

we live over 3 floors and we have stair lifts to our main bedroom I explained but the whole thing was called off as no ambulance firm would do it.

Now last Friday I was told I would have to wait till next Wednesday to discuss his care on return. He is very very upset at not being home now and this is making him worse.

I have contacted a private care company and a private amblance company and I want to know if he can then just leave? Married 40 years and miss him.

After the meeting on the Wednesday my Husband was discharged next day and was sent home in an ambulance. But why the long wait for this I don't know as he wasn't receiving any treatment that he couldn't have had at home.

Thanks for taking time to get in touch. I’m sorry to hear about your experience. The situation you describe relates to the patient transfer and it sounds like the decision would have been made by East Midlands Ambulance Service. If you would like to contact them to discuss this further you can do so on 0333 0124216 or email communications@emas.nhs.uk. However, I will gladly discuss this with you as well. Should you wish to get in touch you can contact me on Beverley.brady@nuh.nhs.uk.

Kind regards,

Bev Brady.
