"Awful experience"

About: Royal Berkshire Hospital

I had surgery this Monday and was an inpatient in Sonning ward. Firstly I woke from general anaesthetic in the most hideous pain. I was then paced into the ward. The nurse whom looked after me during the night was by far the most uncaring nurse I could of imagined. Each time I asked for anything? It felt like such an inconvenience. When your in pain and all you can hear is the nurses laughing up the corridor. After my operation nobody came to explain how my procedure had gone. The staff could not answer why I had a large drain from my tummy. Each time I was promised that a doctor was coming, they never did. At one point I got out of bed with the nurse. Naked from the bottom down, the nurse did not

Close the curtains so just exposed me

To the patients opposite. I have truly never felt so vulnerable and in pain.

We are very sorry that your experience was such a poor one. It is our expectation that patients’ privacy and dignity are managed in a caring and professional manner and that there is a strong focus on assessing and managing post-operative pain. We understand that your concerns are currently being investigated - thank you for raising the issue and giving us the opportunity to work with you on these very important matters.
