"All the staff were very nice to my daughter"

About: Dumfries & Galloway Royal Infirmary / Accident & Emergency Scottish Ambulance Service / Emergency Ambulance

(as a parent/guardian),

All the staff were very nice to my daughter, they listened to her story and took time to get to know her. They put my daughter at ease and calmed her down, they listened to her needs and worries.

My daughter had taken ill at school, initially with visual disturbances, then severe headache.

The school called my mum and when she arrived at the school my daughter was very confused, she was unable to speak correctly and it appeared she was only semi-conscious. The paramedics were called and when I arrived to meet my daughter  from the ambulance she was being Violently sick.

My daughter, they listened to her story and took time to get to know her. They put my daughter at ease and calmed her down, they listened to her needs and worries.

Dear Question763

I was very sorry to hear about your daughter’s illness but really pleased to read about the care she received. It must have been a very distressing experience for her extremely worrying for you as a parent.

Your story highlights the importance of good communication skills and following a person-centred approach to healthcare. The way in which those staff cared for your daughter clearly had a positive impact on her and on you.

I would love to be able to pass on your comments to the ambulance staff who did care for your daughter on that day but to do that I would need some more details to identify them. If you were able to provide some more details, you can contact me on 0131 314 0003 or at martinesposito@nhs.net.

I do hope that your daughter has recovered from her illness and is well and thank you so much for sharing this story.

Take care

Martin.
