"Marjory Warren Ward Worst Care I've Ever See"

About: Basildon University Hospital

My Father was recently admitted to this ward.

Although there were two good nurses i could pinpoint throughout his entire 12 day stay here. My father could not move himself and was therefore limited with what he could do. I often arrived to find he had no water or clean glass to drink from. He often received food without the appropriate cutlery. I walked in behind one nurse and caught them aggressively tugging my dads arm around despite him having a chef drain beneath it, causing him considerable discomfort. I stood in shock whilst my dad asked the nurse what medicine this was (as they were also forgetting what medicine they had given him and providing incorrect insulin doses) the nurse completely blanked him. He asked the nurse three more times and they ignored him until they realised I was standing behind them and I asked the nurse the same question my dad had.

I found mouldy fruit in his bedside cabinet which had been shoved in a carrier bag and stunk. I also found a mouldy sandwich on the windowsill in a sick bowl that also had fluid in it that had been there for days.

When my Father used a bed pan I often had to ask three or four times for somebody to take it away despite the fact we were told by the doctors it was vital that the urine was measured and tested as quickly as possible.

There was no attention to detail or compassion from 95% of the staff I encountered on this ward. Thank goodness for the 5% who are holding the fort for this ward on their own but something must be done about the cleanliness and attitudes of staff here.

We are sorry to hear that you are not happy with the cleanliness or the care your Father has received at Basildon and Thurrock University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Your comments have been shared with the departments concerned. Can we also please encourage you to contact the Patient, Advice and Liaison Service on pals@btuh.nhs.uk or 01268 524900 ext 4441 where you can discuss these issues further. Our apologies once again.
