"Parking"

About: New Victoria Hospital (Glasgow)

(as the patient),

When the old Victoria closed it was much easier to park in the new Victoria. However, it is now almost impossible to find a parking space and apparently, according to a member of staff, this is due to NHS staff from the Southern General not being able to park at that hospital so they park in the new Victoria and bus to the New Southern General miles away. Why on earth is being allowed to, happen! It was bad enough when the Victoria staff used to park in these car parks before the old one was closed but to have Southern General staff going to this extent, I think is atrocious. Signs say for patients and visitors so why is this being allowed. Nightmare for patients and visitors to the new Victoria. Please have this stopped urgently.

Dear Stop this carry on

Thank you for taking the time to post on Patient Opinion. I am sorry to hear that you have had difficulty parking and we are aware that parking on our hospital sites is an ongoing issue. We have parking attendants at the New Victoria Hospital and a policy of a 4 hour maximum stay in our patient and visitor spaces. This usually gives plenty of time for patients and visitors to attend appointments or to visit loved ones, but aims to prevent the kind of parking which you have described. All of our staff are aware of our car parking policy and that they are not permitted to park on any of our hospital sites except in clearly marked staff car parking spaces.

Whilst I do not have any specific knowledge about staff parking at the New Victoria Hospital and travelling to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, this is something that we will look into, and I will also pass on your concerns to my Facilities colleagues to look into this a bit more closely.

Best wishes

Lisa

Lisa..I appreciate u responding, however I mention car parking attendants at the new Victoria. I have visited this car park many times for appts and only ever see an attendant around 9 am. An attendant was there at times when I watched staff park up, put on their hospital badges and then access the hospital and they didn't say a word to them. It was easier to park when the old Victoria closed, but since the new Southern opened, the problem of parking is horrendous for patients and no doubt visitors and to patients in the New Victoria. I'm afraid therefore the explanation in the first part of your reply does not tie up. I would appreciate someone advising me how this problem is going to be resolved please.

kind regards

Dear Stop this carry on

Thank you for posting on Patient Opinion about your recent experiences of parking at the New Victoria Hospital. When the Victoria Infirmary first closed, the complement of parking spaces around this building remained unchanged.

However, with the decommissioning of the main Victoria Infirmary site, the number of parking spaces has significantly reduced in the area and this could be a factor in increasing demand on the remaining spaces at the New Victoria Hospital.

While there are no plans to increase the present number of spaces, Facilities management are currently reviewing the utilisation of parking and dependant on the outcome of this review may consider the re-classification of bays as appropriate to enhance the number of spaces available for patients and visitors.

I am sorry that you have been advised that staff working at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital are allowed to park all day in the car park at the New Victoria Hospital. However this is factually incorrect. Whilst the routine shuttle bus will transport staff to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital from this location many of the staff come by public transport to the New Victoria Hospital. Any staff who bring cars must park where appropriate and as already stated we monitor car parking on site very closely.

Best wishes

Scott, I appreciate you responding..thank you.

However, you mention in your last paragraph that staff are bussed from the area around the New Victoria to the New Southern and staff who do bring cars must park appropriately and that the Victoria carpark is monitored. This is where I still have a problem.

As stated earlier I have seen NHS staff park in this carpark, lock their cars and proceed to put on an NHS badge. No carpark attendant in sight! I have also seen people park up and then jump on a bus outside the carpark and disappear leaving their car in the carpark...not just once!

If you are telling me that you now have this car park constantly covered by an attendant who will not allow non visitors or patients to the New Victoria to park up in this car park, this should release spaces for visitors and patients who need these spaces as the surrounding area is full of cars parked up making it a total nightmare to visit this excellent hospital at times.

I sincerely hope to see an improvement on my next visit.

Kind regards
