"Misleading waiting list time at Stepping Hill"

About: Stepping Hill Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

(as the patient),

When waiting for a hip replacement I was not informed until I had waited 18 weeks that another system is in place, notably 26 weeks from referral, effectively increasing my waiting to 7 months.

This to my mind is a fault in the system if you are not given the whole truth about the waiting list situation on referral you are unable to excercise an informed choice.

I have subsequently discovered that one of the hosptals I could have attended has much shorter waiting times. When you get to the stage of needing surgery for hip replacements you have had the condition for many years and really do not wish to wait any longer than neccessary for treatment.

I hope that this matter will be sorted out quickly. It is unfair to keep patients waiting in severe pain when with a little attention to detail they could be treated more swiftly.

PALS have taken this matter up and have been very helpful.
