In early April, I was cycling home from work then bang I was hit by car. I was taken by ambulance to Lancaster hospital then xrayed to be informed I had severely broken my pelvis and wrist and was to be transferred to Preston. After 10 days in Preston major trauma ward I was told they had finally got the surgical team for my major reconstruction of my hip joint and this was to be done in Wigan hospital. All the time I was in severe pain, could only be turned with extra pain relief. After my surgery I was still very scared but the Wigan nursing staff constantly tried to reassure me that I was fixed and the pain wouldn't be as intense, I found it hard to believe them. Until one morning a care assistant, Karen was on duty and she talked to me in a way that made me give things like turning a go and each day after this I became more and more independent. I can't thank Karen, nurses Amy and Louise, care assistant Carol to name but a few for your care and patience with me. Thank you Aspull Ward xxx
