Being on Avalon was sometimes a very hard place to be - mainly due to the lack of permanent nursing staff on the ward (like much of the NHS at present) making it feel sometimes chaotic and full of strangers (agency staff). But there are some great nurses and therapists doing their best to care for people, and I got a lot of essential help and treatment here. The consultant respected my views even when we didn't always agree, and I felt supported by the MDT. Being on an NHS MH ward is not an easy environment and things could be better here if permanent staffing levels were improved - but it's not the 'hell' it's been described as by other reviewers - though it might well feel that way at times.
