"Good individual staff providing the best care..."

About: Springfield University Hospital (London)

Being on Avalon was sometimes a very hard place to be - mainly due to the lack of permanent nursing staff on the ward (like much of the NHS at present) making it feel sometimes chaotic and full of strangers (agency staff). But there are some great nurses and therapists doing their best to care for people, and I got a lot of essential help and treatment here. The consultant respected my views even when we didn't always agree, and I felt supported by the MDT. Being on an NHS MH ward is not an easy environment and things could be better here if permanent staffing levels were improved - but it's not the 'hell' it's been described as by other reviewers - though it might well feel that way at times.

Dear Anonymous, my name is Jane and I am one of the Patient Experience Leads for the Trust. I would like to thank you for taking the time to share your experience of Avalon Ward and I am pleased to note your positive staff about the nurses and therapists on the ward. I am also pleased to hear that you felt listened to an supported whilst you were on the ward and I have passed your kind words onto the staff.

In terms of the staffing situation on the ward I would like to apologise for the higher than ideal numbers of agency staff on occasion. I am able to confirm that there are now only two vacancies on the ward and that recuritment for these is in progress.

Once more, many thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts and I would like to wish you well on your continuing journey to recovery.

Kind regards

jane
