"Expert care for Scoliosis"

Jan 2010 – After MRI scan and X-rays, I was diagnosed with scoliosis, experiencing excruciating back pain and limited mobility.

May 2010 – Had 2 operations to correct posture. Titanium rods were inserted into spinal area. Recovery includes wearing tailored brace for 3 months. Attended Outpatients appointments on a regular basis, X-rays taken on each visit to check on recovery.

Jan 2013 – Rod became detached in lower lumber region, again experiencing chronic back pain. Was informed that the titanium rod had become detached.

Apr 2014 – Operation took place to remove the rod and replace and also extended the rods into the cervix area to give extra support to the spine. Again the brace was necessary to wear for a further 3 months.

July 2014 – After a fall a rod became dislodged and soon after the corresponding rod on the other side also detached leaving me in great pain and unable to walk.

Sept 2014 – When my consultant surgeon, Mr Mehdian at the Nottingham QMC, returned from lectures I was booked in very quickly for a further operation. The two offending rods were removed and replaced plus a further rod attached underneath to give extra support.

Feb 2016 – After several outpatients appointments I have now been booked in for my next check-up in 2017 after being told the X-rays were fine.

After all the pain and discomfort, this condition can only be corrected with surgery and I realise that without the expertise and dedication of the hospital team I would now be in a wheelchair and still racked with pain.
