"Appalling experience twice as an inpatient this..."

About: Salisbury District Hospital

I had an appalling experience in January of this year when I was an in patient for the second time in 3 weeks and had major surgery.

There were a catalogue of errors, including frequently lost notes, which caused delay and almost resulted in me being operated on without the team knowing what was wrong - a frustrated Junior Dr helped me out of that situation thank goodness, 2 nurses failing to insert a catheter correctly resulting in me leaving with a bladder problem that I shouldn't have had and going home with the catheter, being left for an hour on a bed with a catheter draining directly onto the bed without any bag, being treated like a badly behaved child by nurses when I complained that the catheter wan't working until the nurse in charge discovered for them self (after much complaining on their part that I was making a fuss) that it hadn't been inserted correctly the second time, diagnostic tests that I was meant to have not happening, coming round from my operation in the middle of the night with the buzzer attached to the wall behind me with me unable to reach it for help, going home with the after care notes for the wrong operation, having no advice given about aftercare or what to do with my catheter or what to do in case of a problem and finally me waiting 5 months for follow up treatment that I was meant to have 6 weeks after my operation because my notes were lost again and they forgot to call me in.

As a result I'm in pain constantly, haven't slept for weeks, my condition is getting worse I have no confidence in the department that I'm under and I've still got 5 weeks to wait until I can see them again to arrange further treatment.

There were many many more problems which I don't have the energy to recount here.

I couldn't be more dismayed by the treatment I've received.

I've previously had very good experiences at the hospital in the maternity and children wards but this experience was appalling and many other patients in at the same time were having similar problems, so I'm aware that mine was not an isolated case.
