"Health check advice was badly handled"

About: Bristol, North Somerset, Somerset and South Gloucestershire

(as the patient),

I had a phone call at 17. 32 from my GP surgery telling me that I am long overdue a health check and my "GP refuses to issue a further meds prescription until you have had your annual health check".

This angers me for several reasons.

1) If I'm due a health check that's down to the surgery to call me in and let me know that its required before my next prescription is issued. This has happened before, it did not happen this time.

2) Ringing me at 17. 32 and then saying "you are going to have to ring on Monday because we don't have any appointments available now" is adding insult to injury. Frankly I have my hands full as the carer for an 87 year old who is yoyoing in and out of hospital at the moment. To be told "its your responsibility to look after your own health too" whilst true is a bit rich to put it mildly!

3) I pointed out that I did a week long monitor of my blood pressure several months ago, it was left in a pile of unidentified tests that I had to go in and identify weeks after dropping it in and to this day I have had no feedback on it! I find it exasperating to be lectured on the lateness of my health review when I have done my bit and that information has been delayed, mishandled and not fed back on.

I feel that this really was badly handled and I don't appreciate the lecture.
