"Such a painful procedure"

About: Southern General Hospital / Gynaecology

(as the patient),

I had to attend the Southern general hospital last week as i had been bleeding after sex. I was first given an internal scan, and then told to go see the doctor for an examination.

He looked at my scan and said he had to do ? (I didn't understand what he meant as he used a medical term ). He said I could "cope" with this as I'd had 3 children. He also said if it was too painful he would stop. He then got a nurse to come in & I lay on the bed. He then put what looked like (to me) a pair of long scissors, inserted them and started snipping (I know now) about 4 pieces of off the lining of my womb. Words cannot describe the pain I felt. I thought I was going to be sick & felt faint. The nurse kept asking me if I was all right, & asked me if i was warm. I felt very hot. The doctor never once asked me if I wanted him to stop. The nurse several times looked from me to the doctor. She looked anxious.

When he had finished, he put the pieces into a clear jar (with liquid) . Three times he showed this to me saying "this is very precious. It was very difficult for me to get these samples". I was traumatised, shaking like a leaf.

I do not think this should be allowed to take place without some form of anesthetic. I will never forget this experience.
