"Visit to ED with 5 year old son"

About: Torbay Hospital

On Friday 18 March I unfortunately had to visit the ED with my wife and 5 year son who was struggling to breathe due to croup.

After some time in the (rather traumatic) waiting area the Paediatric nurse of duty that night took us to the Paediatric area where they demonstrated complete calm and gave us, as parents, great confidence in their ability to make our son better.

This nurse was very professional, yet exceptionally compassionate and very good with my son reassuring him in spite of him being frightened.

They did a great job of managing all of the children and their parents in their care.

It was also interesting to see many doctors come to this nurse for advice and opinion.

This nurse strikes me as the type of person that our NHS is built upon and on Friday night my wife, son and I were very grateful that he was in the ED.
